The first 2014 GALLERY@Case[werks] exhibition features an extensive presentation of artist Marie Ringwald’s constructions. Ringwald’s work ethic and investigations of vernacular architecture is presented in 91 examples.

Drawing inspiration from artists such as William Christenberry and Ann Truitt, Ringwald’s work imbues a Modernist’s sensibility of color, juxtaposition and variation. Her process involves collaging wood, rubber, glass, and sheet metal to reflect the buildings from which the materials came – warehouses, factories, farm buildings – and as she states, “buildings for working in and for holding materials.”

Born and raised in the Bronx, Marie earned her BFA from Hunter College in 1970 followed by a year of graduate studies at Temple University’s Tyler School of Art. Since 1977 she has maintained her Washington D.C. studio in a post-Civil War era brick building.
